Hey, are you following me on Instagram yet?
I’d love to have a more interactive conversation with you. Instagram has become my daily writing space, my new diary. And the cool thing about it is that we can talk to each other there!
Search @hollyholtwrites on the app or go to www.instagram.com/hollyholtwrites.
Recently I posted something that I wanted to share with you because, I don’t know, I feel like I finally GET IT. I might have even had an epiphany. You can decide for yourself…
This is what I said:
Practice. Ugh. Yes.
Since I’ve started teaching, what I’ve noticed is how many people stop before they’ve started. Like Veruca Salt, we all want it “NOW!”
I know it feels overwhelming (it did for me), but the raw truth is that the only “hack” that works if you want to “do the thing” is by DOING it over and over and over.
How to write a novel:
1. Start with the first blank page.
2. Stare at it in fear and awe.
3. Fill it with words despite #2.
4. Keep writing.
5. Don’t quit.
How to meditate:
1. Sit and breathe.
2. Watch your crazy thoughts.
3. Check the clock, scratch the itch, wonder why, oh why am I torturing myself this way?
4. Stay. Stay. Stay.
5. Have one moment of peace.
6. Do it again tomorrow.
How to do yoga:
1. Breathe, first, breathe.
2. Maybe move your body into a new shape.
3. Try not to judge your practice based on what it looks like.
4. TRUST that your body knows what to do.
5. Be curious.
6. Keep practicing.
It’s all just so boring. And so simple. Yes, you can do the thing. Will you be a master? No promises.
I am no enlightened being. I am a humbled human with a simple message. Practice the thing that brings you joy. Practice the thing that, oh god, makes you feel whole and human, curious and incompetent at the same time. Practice until your fingers or your heart bleed. Practice because you are alive.
And if you need a rest to prepare for all this practice, I’ve got you covered. Join me at Yoga for Seasonal Self-Care on Saturday, March 9, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Register HERE.
See you on Instagram!
